Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~ Judy Garland

I had the absolute worst time trying to get a photo of my hair, and I look like a man in this photo, so please excuse it as it’s the best I got, but I wanted to share what I had done tonight regardless. I highly doubt I will ever do it all straight on my own again, but I will definitely do my bangs straight. The cut is not too far off from what I got this summer, I wanted a little more drastic bangs, but just as I anticipated, the gal was hesitant to go any shorter until I wore them out for a week or two. So, I might go back in for an adjustment next week.

Thankfully, on the flip side, also just as anticipated, my colorist was fabulous. She was excited to take me all over platinum and luckily it only took one process to get me there, and with a deep conditioning treatment, my hair doesn’t feel damaged or fried at all. (Though, towards the end of the 2 hours under the chemicals, my scalp felt like it was going to burn off.) It might be a little more work to upkeep it, but if I end up lazy, I can always just get some low lights put in and call it a day.

After I got home, I had a bit of a melt down. I felt silly with my obviously processed hair. And, earlier, I tried on the dress I have for my birthday party and I just feel like an idiot because it really doesn’t fit right and I need to find a cute cover up for it or I need to get a new dress. I am going to be thirty, and I just don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard to act like I’m going on 21.

But, after thinking about it, I realize I’m not trying to be anything, but myself. Just because I’m getting older, doesn’t mean I have to stop loving sparkly things or resign myself to my natural hair color. If anything, my 30s should be the time I truly come into my own, throw others’ opinions to the wind, and just let my true colors fly.

And for now, that color is platinum . . . and sequins.

  1. Love it! And I think you look great!

  2. How fun – looking good!
