I could have been a doctor, but there were too many good shows on TV. ~Jason Love

I love TV. I always have. My mom had to try really hard when I was a kid to get me away from the tube on school breaks. I remember having a strict TV schedule filled with The Price is Right, I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Duck Tails, Gimme a Break, Facts of Life . . .

The list goes on. And on.

I got away from TV briefly for a few years in college, when I didn’t have exclusive access to the TV we all shared in our dorm room suite. Then, when I just had a small 19 inch TV in my first apartments that couldn’t get decent reception with the rabbit ears.

Then . . . shortly after college, DVR came out to rent with local cable. The TV, once again, became one of the loves of my life. The ability to record almost anything you want (so long as more than two shows do not share the same time slot that is) and watch it whenever you want . . . aside from smart phones, I think the DVR is my most favorite invention of my lifetime.

In the single crowd of my age group, loving TV as much as I do can be somewhat taboo. TV has always been seen as mindless entertainment. (Am I not doing anything better with my time?) I know many people truly do not watch much TV. But, I know many others who most likely down play how much they do. (There are just too many people who know about the show, I Didn’t Even Know I Was Pregnant.)

Anyway, on this quiet Friday evening as I settle in for some me-time before I hit the hay, all I can think about are all the exciting things waiting for me on my DVR. I can only responsibly watch one show before I really need to get to bed.

What will it be??

I’ve got . . .

1 episode of 20/20, Private Practice, Apprentice, Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, My Life in Food, How I Met Your Mother, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The Haunted, Amazaing Race, Cats 101, and Hoarders: Buried Alive
4 episodes of The Middle
5 episodes of The Little Couple
2 Teen Mom’s, both watched, but I saved them to watch again
2 of The Biggest Loser
4 Hoarders
2 House
15 Bridezillas
2 Glee
7 The Spin Crowd
10 Namaste Yoga
2 Tosh.0
5 Say Yes to the Dress

So, that’s just my confession of the day. My obsession with TV. If times got real hard, I’d cut my grocery bill before I cut my cable. (Though, I did just get rid of the second cable receiver in my bedroom I wasn’t using. A $5 cost savings.)

Now I’m going to watch The Amazing Race . . .

  1. I love TV too and had quite the line up when we lived in the States. But your cure for watching so much TV is to move overseas where you have to download everything. And then get crappy internet, which is pretty much all that’s available in Italy, so it takes like 4 days to download 1 show… You get so frustrated you just say to hell with it all. Almost… I still have 4-5 shows I try to get downloaded regularly, but I’m just a week, or four, behind. =) I miss all those TLC shows a lot!
