an attitude of gratitude

I am so stinkin’ excited for the holidays that I can hardly concentrate at work this week! Christmas lights are up around town, I am listening to holiday music every chance I get . . . and my stomach is growling at the thought of the cold turkey, mashed potato, and cranberry sandwich I will be eating as a midnight snack late Thursday.

I love the warm, fuzzy feelings the holidays create – and while I try to be thankful and caring each and every day, not just around the holidays, I do love the emphasis on being extra thankful and loving this time of year.

And my most favorite thing about the holidays? I absolutely die for traditions. While life has changed over the years, I love that I can count on the holidays having some consistency each year. On Thanksgiving I love knowing we’ll always eat at 1:00 PM at my parents’ house and that I’ll be booted outside at least once for some fresh air and a walk. For Christmas, I love knowing we’ll eat fondue on Christmas Eve and open presents in front of the fire. And I live for my mom’s standing rib roast and yorkshire pud Christmas Day – at the suggestion my mom might make duck this year, I just couldn’t bear the thought.

On the flip side, what I love just as much as old traditions . . . is creating new ones. Like Friends-giving. This year, I will be bringing a few of my nearest and dearest out to the country with me. Then, it’ll be back to the city like last year for a second Friends-giving dinner.

The holidays just make my heart want to burst. And this year is going to be extra special as I get to experience the holiday season for a weekend in New York City with He Who Shall Not Be Named!!!! I JUST CAN’T HANDLE IT!!!!

I was thinking about everything this morning driving to work and had a huge smile on my face. I’m thankful for my tinted windows, because I’m sure I would have looked like a total nut case to other drivers.

What are your favorite holiday traditions and things about this time of year?

  1. I love traditions and everything that goes with the holidays! I took tomorrow and Friday off and can’t wait for my mini-vacay! Happy early Thanksgiving!
