and the survey says!

I have never linked up or participated in any blogger community type things, but I saw this survey on Monica’s blog and I thought it’d be cute to do, too. Especially seeing as this is just my most favoritest time of the year :). Oh, and I just want something to do to procrastinate on the real work I should be doing . . .

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Egg nog. I drink it right out of the carton until I feel sick. True story.
Colored lights on tree/house or white? I love white lights on the Christmas tree and the extra-large colored lights on houses. But, only if they are hung exactly straight, otherwise it just looks sloppy. Just sayin’.
Do you hang mistletoe? No, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in real life. I know I’ve certainly never found myself stuck under it.
When do you put your decorations up? I like to do it Thanksgiving weekend. This year I am skipping the tree just due to space constrictions in my apartment. But, I did haul out a few of my favorite items to put on display . . . a quilted holiday table square my mom made me, my Grandma’s old music box Santa, and a silver star tree topper that has never actually stayed up on a tree.
What is your favorite holiday dish? My mom’s standing rib roast and Yorkshire pudding. Best dinner of the year!
Favorite Holiday memory as a child? When my grandparents would come stay for Christmas through New Year’s. They came out every other year. My uncle and cousins would also come out to visit and it was always so fun to have a full house.
When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was in 2nd grade and only 6, almost 7, years old. A kid on my school bus, a middle schooler, told me Santa was fake. I went home to ask my mom and she confirmed it for me. My mom didn’t believe in lying to kids if they were old enough to question something. And I wasn’t too bummed to find out Santa was really my parents . . . I knew I’d still get delivered the goods :).
Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open ALL of our gifts on Christmas Eve. Only because growing up, Christmas Eve gifts were from family. And Christmas morning were all of the Santa gifts. The tradition stuck long after Santa stopped visiting :). Mainly because I have no patience to wait!
How do you decorate your Christmas tree? My tree is full of sentimental ornaments from my childhood. They are mostly dated Hallmark collections.
Snow! Love it or Dread it? LOVE IT!!!! I can’t go through a holiday season without it. (Read: I was super depressed living in AZ.) It just makes the season feel all that more cozy and sweet.
Do you remember your favorite gift? I don’t have a favorite. My first Nintendo or my leather Wal-Mart jacket stand out (anyone remember those? With the map lining?) . . . but truly, I love anything heartfelt and sentimental the most.
What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Rosettes! They are this star-shaped fried cookie with powder sugar my mom makes. But, she doesn’t do them very often, because they are a mess.
What is your favorite holiday tradition? Eating fondue on Christmas Eve with my parents.

Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? YUM! But, I can’t eat too many because I won’t eat them slowly, I bite them and it’s not good for my teeth.
Favorite Christmas movie? Love Actually!!!! With A Christmas Story and Four Christmases a close second.
Saddest Christmas Song? Ummm, Christmas Shoes, no brainer!!! Haven’t heard it? OMG, grab a tissue and youtube it.
What is your favorite Christmas song? Oh gosh . . . I love so many . . . HARK! The Herald Angels Sing, O Come O Ye Faithful, All I Want for Christmas is You, O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells.

  1. Definitely egg nog! I love everything about the holidays – I’m so excited they’re here!
